Why do I need an email list?
I’m sure you’ve heard it said that it takes the normal person seeing something a minimum of seven times before they will purchase something. That is something you need to wrap your head around, especially if you are affiliate marketing on your website.
What do you think the chances are that you will get your readers back to your page seven or more times without any assistance? It is probably not going to happen. Sorry. I’m just being truthful. A person would have to type in your keyword each time, your website would have to display on page 1 of the results, and that person would have to click on your link. Wow, that’s a lot of chance.
Let’s not leave it to chance. Let’s plan, instead. That’s a much better way to do business. Affiliate marketing is not a difficult business, but in the beginning, when you are building your website content and setting up your affiliate products and links, it can be time-consuming. I have to believe that you are doing all this to make money, and I’ve set up this website to help you do that. Make money.
Email marketing keeps you top of mind with your readers. When you can capture the email address of your readers, you then have the opportunity to show them value in you, and your site, and eventually your products or services! Notice that I said “show them value.” That is your top job in email marketing, with product promotion being last.
How do I get subscribers?
In order to obtain someone’s email, you need to give a person a reason to give it to you. I’ve never seen a form that said, “Hey, can I have your email? Sign up here!” LOL! No, that’s not quite how it works.
The way you get an email address from your reader is by offering your reader something of value that you will email to them. You can offer to send them information. You can offer to put them on a subscription list to receive notifications. You can offer them a free Ebook.
People love free information if it’s presented in a way that it sounds enticing. It’s really all about the presentation. You need to think about your readers. What information would they really want? How can you help them? Helping other people, no matter what your niche, will bring you much success!
Zig Ziglar has a very famous saying. It goes like this:
What do I email to the list?
This is the million dollar question. Let me tell you why. You can entice your reader to give you their email address, and you can send them your ebook, or subscribe them to your list, but your reader can, at any time, unsubscribe from your list, and then you are back to zero.
You want to keep your subscribers on your list, receiving your information, opening your emails. Correct? That is how you keep on their mind and get them to come back to your website or offer. That is the end game.
So how do we keep them? We keep them by sending them quality content and not constantly trying to get them to buy something. Nobody wants to constantly be sold to. I can’t stand when all I get are emails trying to sell me something. I want to receive quality information. I want information that will help me accomplish my own personal goals.
You want to help people, just like the quote from Zig Ziglar above states. Help other people get what they want.
Let’s go over the process!
Sounds like a lot of work?
It does, indeed, sound time-consuming, but nothing could be further from the truth. All of this “work” is done only one time, and then it will run completely on auto-pilot!
How is this accomplished? It’s done with an email marketing service called AWeber, and inside their platform, you set up what’s called a “campaign.” Let me show you how this works! It’s not difficult, and what’s nice is that inside the platform, they have instructional tutorials you can refer to if you want to learn how to do a task!
It’s a very inexpensive program, as well, compared to some of the other ones out there, and it has more function than a lot of the other ones as well. I have taken training through several platforms for my affiliate marketing business, and AWeber is what is typically recommended for email marketing!

How to set up a "campaign"
Create a sign-up form
Choose a template from the large template library
You can add text and pictures, etc. to customize your sign-up form, so don’t worry if you don’t like exactly how it look or if it doesn’t state your whole message or intent:
After you get your sign-up form the exact way you like it, you need to identify the people who subscribe. You do this by giving them a specific “tag” that you choose. You will need this tag later when you tell the system what to do with people who have this particular tag.
This will differentiate your groups of subscribers!

In this next step, you will direct the people who sign up and hit enter to a thank you page. The system has a “default” page, but I always direct them back to my website to a specific page I’ve set up.

Here is an example of a simple thank you page that I set up on my website for one of my sign-up forms:
Now we have the email address...
Once they have subscribed, we are now in possession of the person’s name and email address! Yay! That is just the very first part of the process. This person always has the option to unsubscribe from our emails, so we need to work our marketing magic to keep them interested and subscribed to us!
I talked to you a little bit about the types of emails you want to send. These are just guidelines. You have to follow your own process within your niche. If you want to see what other people are doing, visit a few websites in your niche and subscribe to their site or sign up for their free giveaway. You’ll be able to then see what other people are sending out and how often.
Myself, I don’t like getting “spammed,” and I will very quickly unsubscribe if I see too many emails coming in from one person or company. I just don’t have time to deal with that, and it can actually give me anxiety. Therefore, I set my schedule to my readers according to my own personal preference. Do the same!
How to set up a campaign
As I discussed above, when someone signs up on your form, you set up the form to apply a “tag” to the person. The tag you apply is what you set as the trigger for the campaign. In other words, you set the campaign to start the email process with specific emails to anyone who has that tag.
Once the tag is applied, you will be given options to send an email or wait for a specified period of time. You simply drag your choice over to the campaign.
Once you drag your email, you open it up and create each email.
You just click the “Create a Message” tab and write your email. You can put links, photos, etc. in each email. You then go to your campaign, slide over the “Wait” action and tell the system how long to wait. Then you drag another “Send a Message” action and create your next message. That’s it!
It’s really that simple!
Get that list!
You can make your own squeeze pages. Put information on a page, put your sign-up form on the page, and then post the link to that page all over your social media accounts.
They’re called “Squeeze” pages because they are designed to “squeeze” a person’s name and email address out of them. It sounds kind of crude, I know, but that is what they are designed to do.
Squeeze pages should be brief and enticing. You can buy templates of squeeze pages, but I like original content, and I always suggest you create your own. If you do use a template, be sure it is customizable so you can make it your own.
Here’s a typical Squeeze Page:
Do you see how simple that is? It’s got a great picture a gardener would love. Look at the headline and the simple text, “Learn how to turn your backyard into the most delicious grocery store on the block!” Oooh, now that is music to the ears of any gardener!
Putting your forms on your website
Putting your sign up forms on your website is super easy. Once a form is complete, you are given the html code to place on a post, on a page or on the sidebar widget. It is so easy to do, and remember, there is full support on the AWeber platform if you ever have any questions:
