How to get people to comment on your blog – why this really matters!

You’ve started a blog with the hopes of making money as an affiliate marketer. You have chosen a niche subject, you are providing quality content, but you have very little traffic and no website comments. It just looks like nobody is reading your content without those comments.

When you scroll down on a page and see 15 or 20 comments, it just seems like an active, “happening” post, right? People are taking the time to write a comment, and people don’t usually do this unless they are really interested and captivated by a post. People don’t take their busy time and leave comments on posts that they find irrelevant.

Google likes comments

The search engines, like Google, Bing and Yahoo, love website comments. When the search engines find a page that has a lot of comments, the system automatically reads that as the page is relevant and meaty. Readers like it. There are comments! It’s important, so let’s show this page to readers who search for the targeted keywords. It’s a beautiful thing.

How do you get comments then?

So, how do you get relevant comments on your posts?

Well, you could have your friends and family do you a “favor” and “get onto your website” and “leave a big, long comment.” Yeah, I’m thinking no. I’m thinking I don’t want to bother my friends and family who have their own lives, their own jobs and businesses, and probably would really rather not have to go to your website and leave a comment.

I asked a good friend once if she would go to my lifestyle website and read an article and leave me a comment. I said to her, “It has to be a real relevant comment with details, OK? Please just review a paragraph and make a longer comment.” So she listened so well, do you know what she wrote? “Great article!” That’s it. “Great article.” I couldn’t even believe it.

That’s when I realized she’s a good friend, but this is not her thing, and she just really doesn’t care to spend her time reading my content and making a comment. She was the last friend I ever asked.

The very best way to get relevant, reliable website comments that are worth their weight in gold, is through the Wealthy Affiliate platform.

Wealthy Affiliate Program

Through the Wealthy Affiliate platform, you can put up your post for comments, and you can ask what kind of comments you want. Do you want questions? Do you want opinion? Do you want people’s experiences? Do you want all of the above. It’s yours for the asking.

Here’s a little inside look into the Wealthy Affiliate Platform showing you just how super easy it is to get comments on your blog.  Not only will you learn so much by reviewing other marketers’ websites and commenting on theirs, but you will get timely, relevant comments on your website.  Take a look here:

You can read all about the Wealthy Affiliate platform and all the benefits here.  The great thing is you can sign up for a 100% free membership through their Starter membership.  No credit card or debit card  needed!

In the Wealthy Affiliate program, any types of comments you want on a specific post are available when you put up your post on the platform.

The program is a reciprocal program. You must provide website comments on two websites and you are then eligible for a website comment on one of your posts.

By reviewing other people’s sites and leaving them those relevant comments, you will learn so much.  You will get ideas, see great plugins you might want to try on your site, and help your fellow marketers.

The beautiful part is that you can “boost” your post by leaving 10 relevant comments in a 24-hour period. That gives all your posts 24-hours of comments by other members. You can rack up 10-15 comments in a 24-hour period on the platform. Talk about relevant! The members leave amazing comments that are relevant and meaty. It’s awesome.

Starting out can be tough, I know, so I will also be sharing lots of free resources to get you going.I am dedicated to providing this information to my readers, and I hope you always feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks for visiting my page!

  1. Babs, every article you write is BRILLIANT!  I love how clear and concise you are in your explanations!  I am just learning and it’s been wonderful to read through your articles.  Please keep up the great work providing this information, and I trust in your knowledge.  Thank you.  – Sujandar

  2. Great article again here, I never realised the importance of website comments and have now made it part of my daily routine. Its crazy when you take into account how many criteria you can actually control to get your site ranked and thus improve the flow of traffic to your site. Thanks again for another fantastic read and more importantly another tool to improve the way that I do business online.

  3. Comments are very important but poorly understood by internet marketers when they are starting out. It took me a long time to understand the full value of comments. They are not just something you “should” get on your site. They are something that can raise your site rank overnight! It can be truly stunning how quickly a post’s Google rank can go up when some good comments are added! I have experienced this over and over. I now make sure to always request comments (high quality comments that is) on every single post. It is a huge missing link for many new websites and getting comments could really give their posts and entire websites a boost.

It is very hard to get high quality comments sometimes. A comment like “Great Site” is not helpful. If you can get good comments, then take advantage of it and get all you can.

  4. This is awesome!  Having a community to check out your articles and offer well written and relevant comments is pure GOLD!  Not only do search engines love a nice comment thread but it’s also is a fantastic source of new content and keyword ideas.  As visitors leave feedback they ask questions and share personal experiences on the topic.  WA is the fastest way I can think of the to generate momentum in rankings through quality comments.

  5. I completely agree that it is challenging to get people to comment on your blog and Wealthy Affiliate solved that for me.  It’s an awesome system that they have set up where it works both ways.

Initially i was concerned that I would leave a bunch of comments and not get any in return but I was/am pleasantly surprised.

You are absolutely right on Wealthy Affiliate solving that problem.  Anyone reading this comment take Babs’ advice!

    Babs = Awesome

  6. Hi Babs and I am glad I landed here today- I was googling coaching for online marketers and saw this post so thought it might be worth a look and hello, its just what I needed and this post about comments is so great

I am considering joining Wealthy Affiliate for free and having a look around but from what you have said it feels like it will be a good fit for my building and creating an online business so I am going to bite the bullet and click your link to go take a look and thank you

  7. Hi, I’m actually right now working on the Wealthy Affiliate SiteComment platform. I do comments in between, when I need a small break from my site I’m working on.

The latest improvements on this platform are great, not only can I collect credits to get comments on my posts but also I can make actual cash.

Not that this money would be for surviving but still a motivational tool and a sign of appreciation from the side of Wealthy Affiliate.

By the way, the highest amount of comments I got in return for two credits so far were 8 comments, that’s awesome, almost more than I can handle:)

  8. Hi Babs, a wonderful and informative article. I totally agree that by using the Wealthy Affiliate comment platform it increases the chances of your website being noticed by google. I have also found that if someone who comments genuinely enjoys reading your post they tend to share it with others with similar interests, therefore increasing traffic to your site. thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Cass

  9. Hi Babs!

Getting comments is really a give and take. You want some real good comments? Then you should expect to leave good comments as well.

You can really tell if someone has actually read your post by how well they comment. I personally take the time to read the whole article before leaving a comment. That way I’m not leaving one liners like “great article!” I know what the subject is, and I have an idea of how I can contribute to the conversation.

Thank you for sharing this information with us!

    Amanda (Mandy)

  10. Hey Babs, I agree the Wealthy Affiliate comments feature is simply amazing – it obliterates the “ghost town” effect that is a common difficulty faced as a blogger, especially with new sites. When I observe my own behavior as a visitor (before becoming a blogger) it’s interesting to note that I never once ever thought about commenting on websites – I used to love reading comments, but it didn’t even cross my mind to join in, perhaps people just prefer interacting on social media platforms over blogs? What are your thoughts in this regard?

I can relate to your experience with asking friends to leave comments. I did that too when I just started out with my website and the comment received was “Like OMG I totally needed this!” and she later confessed she didn’t even read the article title, let alone the content. The other people I asked said they would but never bothered!

I joined Fiverr the other day to experiment with freelancing and noticed by chance that some folks offer comments as their gig – It would be interesting to see the quality of comments received on there but for now I think I’ll stick to WA, they have everything a website owner could ever need!

  11. Great post.  I recently started a blog and didn’t even realize how important comments are to the search engines.  I’m also glad you suggested Wealthy Affiliate, which seems like godsend for people who are starting a blog.  I will definitely be checking it out.  Thank you for the great suggestions.

  12. Dear Babs,

Thanks a lot for another helpful and informative post.

To be honest with you I have 150+ posts on my site and nearly 120 posts don’t have any comments on it. After reading your post I realized the importance getting comments and the mistake I have done.

I am not able to control myself and I was keep on laughing when I read your friends comment “Great Article” Lol thanks a lot for the humour.

Although I am a Wealthy Affiliate member I am yet to take advantage of getting comments and going forward I will make use of it for sure and immediately. Thanks for sharing!

Your article certainly made me think more on the subject and I got great insights from your post.

    Wishing you great success!

    1. Not only will you get comments, but each visit is traffic to your site, and who knows, the members are shoppers, too.  I’ve bought many things from other affiliates and signed up for programs and trials under their site, so you could get some sales that way as well.  It’s a win-win!   – Babs

  13. Thank you for sharing ¨How to get people to comment on your blog –why this really matters¨. Yes, certainly, the Wealthy Affiliate platform is the best way to get relevant, reliable web comments. But, I´ll get to that in a moment. First, let me touch briefly on the benefits, which you discussed in your article.

Increase social proof.- when a lot of people comment, it makes your blog more popular Gauge how well  your posts are received –feedback is awesome and blog comments are a great way to get post specific feedback Develop relationships with your audience. – getting ahead on the web is all about developing and  maintaining  mutual beneficial relationships Give your readers a voice and help them become part of the conversation

Creating a community around your blog can be challenging, but it can be done and comments are one way to do it- WA is also one way, but not the only way.But the reality is that your community doesn´t just have to exist in the comments section on your blog.

You could create ¨your own membership site¨and add a discussion forum to it. This could be for free members or you’re paying customers.Another alternative is to run your own Facebook group. While you´re building a community on ¨rented land, it has the potential to grow faster thanks to Facebook´s built in audience
