How to Learn Affiliate Marketing – Step 2 – Creating Content

How to Learn Affiliate Marketing

Content is the meat of your website. It is why people visit the site, to read your content. People are searching out there on the web looking for what you are offering, and you need to draw them in, yes, but you need to keep them once they land on your page.

How do you do that? With your content. The information you share, the pictures you put on your posts, the products you recommend. All of these things constitute your “content.”

Apologies to any vegans out there!

What defines good content

The best content is when it comes from your heart. When you work on a niche that you are passionate about, interested in, have knowledge in, or want to learn about, your readers will sense that and get great value from your words.

Your words are important. Do you think the most successful affiliate marketers out there have halfhearted content on their pages? I can assure you, they do not. They take great pride in the content they provide their readers, and the readers reward them by returning to the site time after time. The readers also trust the contents and will then buy from the site because the site has gained their trust. Let’s talk about these components.

Pride in your content

As an example, let’s say you have a niche pertaining to building furniture. You have tinkered yourself, and you’ve built a few things, but you have always wished you really had the time to make it a hobby more than an interest. The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you are in control of your business. That means that whatever you want to promote is what you can and should promote.

If you are really excited about learning about furniture building, you might take some extra steps to prepare really informative articles and instructions to your readers, absorbing and enjoying all the information yourself as you gather it. You may even go to the library and look through books, perhaps try your hand at a project or two and photograph it or video it.

Don’t you think your readers are going to be just as excited as you are when they dig into your well-prepared content?  Remember, these are people that are searching for information about building their own furniture.

You have set up a website with keywords that are built around that niche. So these are people that will definitely be very excited if you have pride in your content and provide value to the readers.

Building trust in your site

Here is where your pride also plays a hand, because you have to have pride that the information you are sharing is true and correct to the best of your ability. You don’t want to go out on the internet and grab inaccurate information and then bring that to your readers, presenting it as factual if it is not. This is very important, and I want you to really take this in. Always vet the information with several sources before you regurgitate it back to your audience.

People buy from people they like and trust. It’s human nature. If you talk to your readers like real people, like you would talk to a friend, not like some kind of instructor or English professor (unless your niche is English lol), you will warm people up to you. They will see you and your site as credible, and they will feel comfortable buying from you or investing in your program.

If you make an error, admit it. There’s nothing wrong with making a mistake, and when someone calls you out on it in a comment, acknowledge it, research it, and if need be, correct it, and make sure you do it on the comments area. You never want to just not publish someone’s comments because they found an error. It lends more credibility to you to acknowledge an error and correct it than to ignore it. Bad reviews are hard to get over.

I’m not a writer, so now what

I hear this frequently, so you are not the first person to be concerned that maybe your writing skills aren’t what you would like them to be. Even if you are not a “writer,” you know how to talk, right? If you can converse, then try dictating your content instead of actually writing. Record your posts. You can talk like you’re talking to a friend, giving the information, and then you can go back and type it up, making changes as you go.

This is a great way to be able to provide meaningful, honest content without intimidation, because I know about a program that will check your content for errors once you do type it up. See below:

Spelling, grammar, sentence structure and punctuation

Yes, these can be show-stoppers, can’t they? We don’t want a website with improper grammar and spelling because Google looks poorly on it (yes, Google is a bit of a snob), and we will lose our credibility with our readers if our posts contain English errors.

Good thing I know about a program that is free to use if you are a Wealthy Affiliate member. The good news there is that Wealthy Affiliate program discussed in Step 1 does offer a free membership, so you could use this program to make sure your posts are perfect! The content program checks your posts for 1) spelling, 2) grammar, 3) sentence structure and 4) punctuation! All the biggies taken care of. So if your English isn’t the best, do not despair, this program will check all these components for you and give you the suggested corrections! It’s perfect!

How do I get ideas for content

Content ideas have never been easier than with the Jaaxy program. As I discussed in Step 1, you can get a free trial of Jaaxy and it’s also included in the free Wealthy Affiliate program, but either way you do it, get signed up because this one program is going to change the whole trajectory of your business. To the stars!

OK, so I wrote an article all about article ideas, because what to post about is something that I hear so many affiliate marketers really struggle with. You do not have to struggle. There are an infinite number of ideas for every single niche, and this article will explain exactly how to use the Jaaxy tool to get an unending supply of article ideas!

Babs Wagner

Born in Texas, raised in upstate New York, I have been marketing for my entire adult life.I have decided to share all the information I have gathered on what works in affiliate marketing, and what doesn't because I want to let the world know that working online gives you the freedom to work from anywhere, and that is exactly what I do!

Starting out can be tough, I know, so I will also be sharing lots of free resources to get you going.I am dedicated to providing this information to my readers, and I hope you always feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks for visiting my page!

  1. I’ve been trying to make money online for years. I tried a few Clickbank products but they just taught you to build email lists and post affiliate links all over the place, none of them really teaches you how to make money properly with affiliate marketing. From what I’ve read in this post the right way to do it would be to build a website and create lots of unique and helpful to create trust with your readers and potential customers.

This Wealthy Affiliate you recommended sounds like the perfect place to explore for affiliate marketers, they seem to have a lot of free business tools built into their platform. You mentioned that Wealthy Affiliate is a free program that comes with a free 14 day free Jaxxy trial, when the 14 day ends does your Wealthy Affiliate membership end as well?

    1. You can keep your Wealthy Affiliate free account as long as you like, which is the cool part, so there’s no pressure to hurry up and sign up or anything like that.  Some people just use the free site and sign up for Jaaxy.  The Jaaxy upgrade to Pro was only $19.99 monthly, you just can’t beat that for all you get.

I would never recommend anything that wasn’t a great investment.  I know money is important to everyone, so that’s why I’m always looking for the best bargain, but with the best benefits, and Wealthy Affiliate has all of that.

  2. Hi Babs, this is another good article.  Do you think Wealthy Affiliate is good for beginners?  It seems there is a lot to learn about affiliate marketing and sometimes it is difficult to know where to begin and what to focus on.  Your article gives beginners some comfort to know there is help and you don’t have to get stuck on perfect grammar, especially if English is not your first language because many people are too afraid to start if their English is not good.  Well done.

    1. It is the only option for beginners, in my opinion, and I’ve looked at and tried a lot of programs.  This one is the best by far.

  3. Couldn’t agree more with you Babs. But can I suggest that giving an opinion in your articles is also a great way to get people to engage in discussion. Giving your opinion may also differ from many, but that doesn’t mean you’re wrong. I think readers appreciate an honest opinion.

  4. I have no back ground of making money online, but I recently creaeted my first ever website. The problem is in attracting decent traffic and I have also finding it difficult to rank on Google.

I at once thought maybe I am doing it the wrong way, I think I will try to use the platform you recommended (Wealthy Affiliate).

Can you do much as a free starter member because as of now I don’t have any money to subscribe but will see in the near future.

    1. Yes, you can do a LOT with the free membership, and if you subscribe to my website, I can help you also, and you will get advanced training here.  The advanced training and community are the main perks of the Premium membership.

  5. Thanks for the informative article.  I like the information you are providing.  I do have some questions for you.  You mention building trust in your website.  Do you feel there are a certain range of articles you have to publish before you gain trust, or is it more about how frequently that you post an article?  Also, are there any tricks or tips that you use to get people to come back to your website?  It seems that people will stop by, but I can’t seem to get them to come back and check out all the new articles that get published.  What would you recommend to have repeat visitors?  Any help you can provide would be great.  Thanks for helping me get on the right track for success.

  6. Hey Babs – thanks for this article on affiliate marketing. I absolutely love affiliate marketing because I find it so versatile and fun. I love writing a different variety of types of articles each week – some product reviews, some product lists, some vs posts and other articles that provide a solution to a problem (ie recommending products to solve the solution). It really is a great way to make money online.

  7. Writing content is probably one of the hardest thing that I have to do as a blogger. I am not much of a writer, especially when it comes to publishing something so most of my blogs are really short like 600 words or less. I read that going over 1000 words is the best, but I am really struggling with that. What ways do you use to beef up your content? Any strategies that aren’t overly complicated? Thanks!

  8. My main concern when I’m writing content is that it’s never going to be long enough to rank well within the search engine results. How long should the word count be for a decent blog post or article? Is there a magic threshold of words?

I’m also worried about how long each paragraph should be – is it true that paragraphs to online content should in fact be short and sweet?

    1. Paragraphs should be short or people just won’t read them.  It’s some kind of psychology.  You must make your content as close to 1,000 words as you can.  With the Wealthy Affiliate writing tool, it counts the words and the number of paragraphs (they recommend 5 minimum).  Don’t make your articles too much over the 1,000 word threshhold.  Keep your content relevant, well-written and on topic!  Let me know how else I can help!

  9. Great post! Yes the content is the most important thing in our site. To write good content, first we must go to the research keyword. Sometimes people, like me, find the writing process very hard and difficult. As you said it is very important to select something we love to do or to know about until we become an expert. Thank you for sharing these good ideas to help us create good content 😊

  10. That’s a great article I read today. I like about how you are trying to explain the importance of contents to your readers and yes content is the key and it’s meat of the website. I recently published one article which I felt didn’t do well with the content, and I will look at it again.

Great job, as always.  I appreciate you site!

  11. It’s great to see you promoting affiliate marketing and Wealthy Affiliate by extent. I’m part of the community as well and it’s really amazing to be a part of it. I joined in 2017, commenced my training and left it idle for a long time, but I am already back at it and i’m not gonna stop. I am already experiencing success with my website and it’s been indexed by google! I think that you have layed everything neatly and accurately. Do you have any other niche websites?
