SEO marketing explained – Full details with illustrations!

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – Learn what it is, how it will immensely benefit you, and exactly how to get it for your website for free! You can make money from your website through generic searches which costs no money out of pocket, or you can pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for ads on Google.  Which would you prefer?

This article is going to explain to you exactly what search engine optimization is and the various ways you can achieve it for your website without paying for ads!

SEO Marketing Explained

Here are a couple of definitions of SEO I got online:

So what does this gibberish mean? LOL. OK, so the first definition talks about increasing the quality and quantity of “traffic” to your website. So, what is “traffic?” This is the term for people who come to your website. They are the “traffic,” your visitors, and if you get more “traffic” to your site, a couple of things happen:

  1. This traffic generically improves your ranking on Google, so more traffic = higher rankings = even more traffic (keeps going…) because Google now sees you as a more credible website because people are going to it.
  2. Every person who visits your website is a potential buyer for your program or products. If your goal is to make money from your website, “traffic” is the name of the game!

The second definition above talks about strategies, techniques and tactics! Well, that sounds complicated, right? However, it really isn’t complicated at all. For generic SEO results you are going to follow a simple strategy:

Use perfect keywords for your domain name and each post title. How to get perfect keywords is discussed here in this article:

DOES KEYWORD SEARCH WORK

How to find the perfect domain name, one that is search engine optimized to get you to the number 1 spot on page 1 of Google, is discussed in this article here:

PERFECT DOMAIN NAME WITH JAAXY

When you are done reading this SEO article here, you can go to those two articles for a full explanation of exactly how to optimize your website with a cool free tool!

Ranking on Page 1 of Google

The entire purpose of “optimizing” your website is to get up to that coveted number 1 spot on google for your keywords. Please don’t run away – I promise you that you can get full training on exactly how to implement strategies to accomplish this goal.

So why the number 1 spot on page 1 of Google? That’s where people will SEE YOU and CLICK ON YOUR WEBSITE! They are not going to go all the way down page 1 and then click on page 2 and go all the way down page 2 and click on page 3 where you might be proudly sitting. This is not going to bring you success. Success is achieved when you are on page 1 of Google for your keywords.

If you read those other two articles, you will have a firm understanding of keywords and how to get the perfect keywords to help you rank on page 1.

But keywords aside, what are some other steps you need to take in order to rank on page 1 for your keywords?

Website activity is another key factor

If your website is not active, Google will not find it important and relevant enough to display it on page 1 when people search your keywords.

Placing low competition keywords on your site is not enough to rank you in that #1 spot on Google. You need to be sure your website is active, but what does that mean?

How is a website deemed “active?”

You must have visitors coming to the website. This can be a catch-22, right? That’s because when your website is new and has not yet ranked in Google, well how do you get traffic to the site if nobody is finding it in their searches? You could do a couple of things:

1) Contact all your friends and family and give them the link to your website and ask them to visit it a few times a day for you. (This does not sound like the #1 way to get traffic, and while you could certainly ask your friends, there is no guarantee they will carve out time from their busy schedules to help you out.)

or better yet….

2) Join a community of affiliate marketers like the Wealthy Affiliate community. Becoming an active member of Wealthy Affiliate (land you can join for free with no credit card info required) will give you access to the thousands of members, and everyone works together to get traffic to your website and to get comments on your posts. This one aspect of Wealthy Affiliate will boost your ranking with Google quickly. You will also get invaluable training on setting up your site and optimizing it.

3) Get the conversation going on your site. You need to have relevant comments and engage people in dialogue about your post. This is critical. Google views sites with comments as active and interesting and relevant, and they will reward your efforts with a high ranking. So how do you get comments? You could ask friends and family, or you could join the Wealthy Affiliate platform for free, where you can get all the comments you want or need for your site.

Keyword rich post titles and content

As I mentioned above, you can read all about keyword rich titles, but let me go over the content a little bit here. So when you get that perfect post title, let’s say it is Top Foods that make you look younger for your health-niche website. It has a great Jaaxy score, and you’ve titled your post. What about the post itself.

In prior times, it was suggested you pepper the keyword all throughout the post, but this is not longer the case. Now the idea is to mention the exact keyword phrase just one time in that very first paragraph. So you could begin your paragraph with a sentence like: “Everyone wants to look and feel younger, but what are those top foods that make you look younger?” (There are those keywords again). Just one time is all you need – you do NOT want to over-do those keywords or it will be a mark against your in your SEO rankings.

Now let’s discuss the most important aspect of your website, the content!

SEO Optimized Content

What is SEO optimized content? Let me explain:

  1. It’s relevant, well-thought-out, researched data that is written with the reader in mind. Think about this website right here. You came here looking for specific information to help you get your website optimized, right? You were looking for relevant and timely information, correct? That is what I have provided for you.
  2. The content must be unique. Now that’s not to say that you won’t be researching your subjects and gathering “information” from other sites, but you want to avoid (at all costs) copying other websites and printing their data as your own. Think of your content like you would a research paper. You want it to be well-vetted and unique.
  3. The tone should be conversational. Nobody wants to read a textbook, unless your website is a textbook. If you are looking for a specific audience, talk to them the way they talk to each other. You want to engage your visitors. You want them to finish your article and then click to another one because they found value in the first article. Keep it interesting and fun so people become excited to have found your site.
  4. You need to have good grammar, spelling and punctuation. Google likes it, and people will find your site more credible if they aren’t finding mistakes all over the place. I want to stress the importance of that. With the Wealthy Affiliate program, The software Wealthy Affiliate provides will check all your posts for
  5. Grammar,
  6. Punctuation,
  7. Spelling and
  8. Sentence Structure.

WordPress SEO Plugin

Every theme suggests you download the wordpress SEO plugin, and this give you the ability to add those keywords to this plugin as well for even better ;optimization. It is a simple process. You go to your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins – Add new. Then you would search for All in One SEO Pack and install it onto your WordPress site.

Be sure to join the WordPress Community for help with WordPress issues. You will find a huge amount of support from the Wealthy Affiliate community as well. You can ask a specific question whenever you want, and a whole group of people will pitch in and give you advice and suggestions. It’s pretty incredible to have that kind of support 24/7 when you are building your websites.

  1. Thanks for the thorough SEO marketing explanation. I’m not sure how I feel about SEO because i’ve been trying for 2 years eith no success.

A part of me wants to just go with paid traffic. I don’t know what I should do at this point, what would be your advice?

    1. When you say you’ve been trying for two years with no success, have you been optimizing your posts with keyword rich titles?  You aren’t ranking?  Are you posting diligently?  You do have to keep the site active with new content as well.

  2. Hi Babs,

This post is really helpful.  I do have a WordPress website, but struggling with the SEO aspect of it.  I am fairly new to this and did not realize how important keyword research is.  I could not understand why my posts are not getting indexed in Google.  Now I know!  You really helped me out here.

Jaaxy seems like a great keyword tool, but is it really worth the investment?  I normally only sign up to products that will offer me a return in investment.  How will I achieve this with Jaaxy?

    1. If ranking your site isn’t worth the $19.99, I don’t know what is.  It is so great to be able to choose keyword rich post titles that I know I can rank for because of low competition.  It makes my valuable time spent on fruitful activities instead of guesswork.  So yes it is worth every single penny!!

  3. Thanks for your SEO guide. SEO is becoming more and more competitive and it’s getting harder to get ranked as more and more pieces of content are being published.

As you mentioned, publishing regular quality content that targets low-competitive keywords is the key to long-term SEO. From what I’ve experienced in the past couple of years, I think promoting the content is also very important to get social media shares and natural backlinks. Do you agree?

  4. This is a great read. Having good SEO on your site is the number one way to drive traffic, as you mentioned quality content and an active website are what Google is looking for. Comments add content to your site and also show engagement, The system you mentioned Wealthy Affiliate is a fantastic choice. They have a Site Comments Module just for adding quality comments to your site which ads to the activity and in turn to higher rankings.

    Thanks for the information

    Todd

  5. I’ve recently started learning about blogging and marketing and it always surprises me at how many layers good SEO has – just when you think you have it nailed…you read another article that points out another ranking factor you need to be taking into account!

I recently read that keywords are not so important these days, that being said – what would you say is the most powerful SEO technique for a blogger in this day and age?

    1. Keywords and content.  Relevant, timely, consistent content.  You have to optimize your posts for particular keywords – not an option – and you have to continuously be adding content – not an option – not if you want to be successful.

  6. I know that SEO is really important because it will provide you with better search results. Or in other words your website will be likely to reach your audience because of the better position. Your article is really nice. You did a great explanation and you will ease up this for the people who are not that experienced in this field.

Can you elaborate more about Wealthy Affiliate and how it helps your website get more exposure?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. When you are a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate, you have access to the Website Comments area where you can put your site and get comments.  These comments give Google the impression you are popular and relevant, which helps your ranking.  Therefore, being a member, with all the other members going to and leaving comments on your site helps quite a bit.

  7. You did a great job of explaining all of this!  No matter how many times I’ve read about SEO, I feel like I learn more and more every time I read a post about it.

I also sometimes forget how important comments are to a site.  Traffic is counts from ALL sources that are driven there.  And I guess like forums like Reddit, you want those conversations to keep going and going to further develop your site’s content.

Do you put ‘alt” tags on your images as well? I’m never sure whether or not  I should be doing that.

  8. I have always found SEO a mystery, different people give different explanation as to how google go about ranking and helping in building up your organic traffic. I like the way you have explained it, it makes so much sense and looks easy to implement. The part of getting family and friends to check out your content is what i find tricky, there is no other way of getting traffic, like through social media?

  9. Hi Babs,

SEO is the thing that will really work for us, internet marketers.

I have been a premium member of Wealthy Affiliate for the past 7 months and I am slowly building my website. I only have 20 posts so far because I don’t have lots of time to write because I have a full time job, family and community responsibilities.

This is my first website and I am really a newbie in this thing.

Like you said, there are lots of resources in Wealthy Affiliate, lots of trainings and they really work.

Just recently, one of my posts ranked # 1 in Google. I was so happy, and it’s still # 1 today. All because I have followed the training, such as using keywords and requesting comments.

Thanks for all this valuable information.

  11. Hey Babs,

Thank you for explaining the whole process of search engine optimization, but i do have a few questions in mind.

    1. Does Exact Name Match Domain still relevant to get our website in front of SERPs?

    2. Is high bouncing rate affects our website ranking despite there are many visitors coming to our site?

    3. Google has more than 200 metrics to rank our site and kept on changing forever. It’s hard to keep track and what would be your advice?

    4. Beside SEO, is Social Media Optimization important to drive traffic and increase site ranking?

Lastly, l wishes to extend my apologies for asking so many questions as these will help me in optimizing my website.

    Best wishes

    1. I am by no means an expert in SEO, but I have learned a few tricks during my years of doing this business.  I believe the bounce rate is part of the metrics for the search engines.    As far as social media, I make sure that every post I make gets onto Google Plus, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter at a minimum.  I also throw each post into the Comments area of Wealthy Affiliate for other members to put website comments on, which also helps.

  14. I used to work for a company that constantly spent money buying ads instead of creating their own website. I expressed interests in making the website for the company myself but they complained it was too much work to maintain. YouTube, the internet, both great tools for learning self start ups. I am so glad I no longer work for the company started my own online presence.

    1. It is a lot of work to establish, I will give them that, but once it is up and running and ranking, maintaining is easy, and it’s FREE except for the $49 premium membership fee if you are premium.  Can’t beat that!!!

  15. Thanks for this wonderful write up, i am actually new to internet marketing and know very little about SEO Optimizatiob and site ranking.

Always been wondering why my posts have not been ranking, thank for this wonderfully embedded tips would try all immediately, would publish a post for three weeks and and would be yet to rank.
