This tool is amazing and will change how you understand and manage your website. I am going to show you the answer to the question: What is Google Search Console about! I am going to show you how to set it up on your website and how to use it to analyze the data.
It’s super simple to use and highly useful for you as a website marketer. You’re going to love this, so let me get into it.
Google Search Console gives you an inside look into your website, it’s performance, what pages are indexed or what pages have problems preventing indexing.
It’s really an amazing insight into your site, and it’s absolutely free!
Sign up for Google Search Console
Simply search for Google Search Console or click here:
Add your website url to the Google Search Console
Once you go into the site, you need to enter your website url into the program.
Choose the URL Prefix option. It’s easier to set up.
Just type your full url into the space provided and click Continue.
Verify website ownership
Google will not provide the information to you on your site until you verify ownership. I’m going to run though the steps to do this.
You want to choose the HTML tag option. It will open up with a code. Go ahead and copy the code.
You can copy the code to your computer by highlighting it and then right clicking and choose copy.
Now that you have the code copied on your computer, it’s time to upload it to your website for Google to find and verify. The instructions are very specific and must be followed exactly.
Your first step in your dashboard is to click the Appearance tab and then select Theme Editor.
I want to stress to you that this area of your website is a place you do not want to just go into and make random changes. You must be very careful here because any wrong entries or deletions can break your website!!!
Now, once you click on the Theme Editor, you’re going to go over to the right side and scroll down and choose Theme Header.
Go ahead and click on that.
Here is where you need to be very careful and very specific. You want to pay attention to what you’re doing and follow instructions.
You want to place the code (paste it in) in a very specific point in the website code.
It must be within the “head” section When looking at the code you will see and a bunch of code and then at the end. This the beginning of the head section and is the end of the head section.
Paste the code just above the </head> line.
Once you paste it, click the Update File button. Now you’re ready to go see if Google can read it.
Now you simply click the “Verify” button under that HTML tag code you just pasted on your website, and that’s it.
Google goes to your website, sees that you have placed that code within your header, and they verify you. That’s it!
Now you are ready to use this awesome program!
Set up your Sitemap next
Now that Google knows the site belongs to you, you can set up your site map of your website. This will help Google to navigate about your site..
1. Click on Sitemap over on the left side of your Google Search Console Dashboard:
2. You see where it says “Add a new sitemap” above? You can find your sitemap url by going to your All In One SEO plugin on your WordPress dashboard and select “Feature Manager” from the menu:
3. You will see a blue “Activate” button below the XML sitemaps under the Feature Manager section.
Go ahead and click on that to activate your sitemap.
4. Once you click on that Activate button, you will see a new menu item appear under your All In One SEO area labelled XML Sitemap!
When you click on the new XML Sitemap tab, you will have a lot of options. I left all mine in default settings. You can change any of the settings if you wish. Myself, I simply clicked Update Sitemap.
Then, once I update the sitemap, I click on Sitemap status and then view your XML Sitemap for the url:
It appears right at the top in the url address bar! That’s your sitemap url. You go back and fill that into the space on your Google Search Console dashboard!
Once you fill in the sitemap, Google sends you this notification! SUCCESS!
Now we have to

Ok, so you’re all set up now. You waited a couple of days for Google to index your pages and posts, and now it’s time to see the beauty of Google Search Console!
Once you are established, it will start to display your url’s.
A tour of the platform
You can just play around with the program. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but I will go over some of the key features to get your familiar with how to use it!
First, click on the coverage tab on the left side of your dashboard. You’ll see that Google displays the number of pages indexed and the ones with errors or excluded. This screenshot was provided by Kyle Loudon on one of his websites. He is my mentor and trainer at the Wealthy Affiliate University:
How many clicks are you getting?
Kyle explains that the performance shows how many web search clicks your site is getting! How awesome is this? Won’t it help you immensely to know day by day how your website is performing?
Check the performance of individual posts
Another great thing about this program is you can actually inspect any of your posts or pages individually. That’s leads to total insight into your performance on an article-by-article basis!
View the impressions
Not only do you see the clicks your site is getting, but you can see the impressions! That shows you how many people are seeing your information (title and brief description) and how many people are clicking after that.
Inspect mobile usability
Mobile usability is critical in this day and age, as you know! Everyone is on their phone, so you must ensure your site is mobile friendly. These insights are perfect for this type of analysis.
View top linking websites
You can view the top linking websites to your site and also which of your pages is linked the most:
Index Coverage Status Report
You can get an index coverage status report to learn about your pages and their index status.
