That’s right, you know me by now, right? If I can get you a resource for free, I’m going to do that for you! So read on! Let’s dive into search engine optimization:

What is search engine optimization and how does it work?

OK, I’m going to briefly touch on exactly what search engine optimization is, but if you want to really learn more about SEO, you can check out my article here:   SEO MARKETING EXPLAINED

For the purposes of this article, I will explain enough about SEO so you understand the basics, and then I want to dive into the SEO tool that I use that has made my life easier and my wallet fuller. I mean that. This one tool has taken me from struggling to optimize my site to total confident optimization on every post! That’s quite a statement.

Search engine optimization is, in a nutshell, when you take specific targeted steps to increase the number of visitors to your website. That’s it! So why do you want more visitors? Well, that’s self-explanatory. You want more visitors to your site to make more money. Visitors = potential buyers = $ales! So visitors are the name of the game.

In the internet world, we call the visitors to your online website “traffic.” You will hear the term “increase traffic” to your website. That’s search engine optimization – taking specific targeted steps to increase “traffic” to your website.

How do you “optimize” your website

One critical step in optimizing is the proper use of the perfect keywords. In fact, this is probably one of the most important steps. So what are keywords? Simply stated, they are the words people type in to Yahoo or Google when they are searching for something specific. For example, someone might search “What is the best violin 2018” if that was their interest. Website suggestions pop up from the search engine, whether it is Google or Bing.

Keywords must meet specific criteria to optimize your website. You have to choose keywords people are searching for, but they have to be low competition keywords. You cannot compete for a keyword that has 400 other sites with the same keywords, right? We’re trying to make this easy!

How can you compete for keywords?

With the literally thousands of websites out there, and potentially hundreds or thousands in your chosen niche – you may feel like you are fighting an uphill battle. Well, I am here as your coach and mentor to tell you that you are not fighting an uphill battle at all. If you know the right steps to take, and if you have the proper tools, you can rank on page 1 of Google or Bing for your chosen keywords without any trouble. You just need the steps!

So now the question remains, how is this even possible, and what are these magic keywords that I should choose? You can read all about choosing PERFECT KEYWORDS here: DOES KEYWORD SEARCH WORK It’s a simple process, so again, don’t worry. Remember, I can get you full training for FREE!!!

I am going to lightly define keywords for you here, but read that article above on keywords for the full explanation in greater detail. So, keywords are your search terms, or in other words, the words someone types into the search engine. Let’s take an example. Let’s say someone is interested in weight loss. What are the search terms (keywords) they would enter into Google, Yahoo or Bing’s search engines to find websites relating to that topic? Maybe something like “Lose Weight Fast” or “Best diet plans for quick weight loss” or “best weight loss supplements.

Can you see where there would be literally thousands of keywords relative to one type of search? The possibilities are absolutely endless. The question is, though, what are those perfect keywords, the ones that will rank us in the search engines so people find us on page 1? What are the ones people use the most so I get “traffic” to my site using them?

If you don’t understand keyword ranking in google, you can read about ranking in this link below and also check the ranking for any keywords you would like to know about for your website:

CHECK KEYWORD RANKING GOOGLE – AUTOMATICALLY!

Ranking is exactly that – how you rank compared to other websites that are also trying to optimize their page for the same keywords. That’s why some keywords are perfect keywords and others fall short. When you “rank” in the search engines, that means when someone types in your keywords (like “lose weight fast” in our example) your website would pop up on page 1 of the results.

That’s the goal – page 1 or BUST! You want to be above the other sites so people click your link first!

How can I rank my keywords

That is exactly what you want to do is choose keywords you will have success in ranking with. So let me tell you about this tool that you can use for free to see which keywords are perfect, and to get new fresh keyword ideas, too. 1. Hi, I have a fairly basic understanding of keywords but I wanted to give your poster read to see if I was missing anything. Well, considering my knowledge is still at the beginner level I’m sure I’m missing something somewhere! I use Jaxxy and it gives me great keywords related to my niche. I just use the free version and its great for me until I start hopefully someday getting that traffic coming around to make purchases. I’ve heard it’s good to use your main keyword within like the first 70 or hundred words of your blog post. Have you found this to be good advice?

  2. Hi,

This SEO thing is wonderful. You mention that SEO=traffic=$ales. Can you explain a little but more how?

Does it mean that if I use the right keyword, then I go to 1st page of Google and BIng. Of course if I am on the first page then people will see my website first and possibly click it vs others, but how exactly do I make money? Do people just go to my site and instantly I earn money? Who will pay me, etc?

I hope it doesn’t bother you that I ask questions a lot.

    Thanks,

    John Greg

    1. You’ve got it down perfectly!  I am here to help, and I appreciate your enthusiasm!  When you do affiliate marketing, you have an agreement with a company to sell their products.  Your website directs people to their site to buy, and if they do you get a commission.  It’s super easy.  If you’d like to study the course on Affiliate Marketing, you can begin it here:  HOW TO LEARN AFFILIATE MARKETING – STEP 1 – WEBSITES

  3. Thank you for the insightful article. I know a little about SEO, trying to use that to increase the traffic to my website. Keyword research I do too, and I can vouch for Jaaxy being a great keyword research tool, giving you numbers like monthly traffic, amount of competition, etc. I’m still using the free version, and it serves me really great!

  4. Babs, Thanks for your post. It has made me think that I need to revisit the SEO element of my blogging efforts. I know I write good articles. I set a high standard for myself on that, and the comments I get reflect that I do. And I make my articles webby; there’s plenty of linking back to other websites referred to in the post. But finding the right keywords has been elusive and I think I need to go back a little and revisit an article or two and insert some sought-after keywords. Either that or I’ve been impatient. It’s been just over a month, for me. I’m wondering if Google reevaluates their rankings on a monthly basis, and I may have to give them another month or two, to bring my posts up to Page 1. But, thanks to you, and thanks to Jaxxy, I know what I need to do to shore up this weakest link in my blogging scheme. Thanks again.

  5. I use Jaaxy for all my keyword research. And for me, it has been exactly what you said, it takes all the guesswork out of the equation. I think of topics that I would like to write about and then put the words into the Jaaxy search and find a low competition keyword related to the topic! It’s so easy and simple to do. So I highly recommend Jaaxy to anyone who wants to get traffic to their website.

  6. What else do you recommend aside from Jaaxy? I mean, when it comes to keyword tool and fine-tuning our websites for the search engines, it really seems like Jaaxy is the way to go.

I’ve heard good things about Jaaxy, maybe it’s worth the try. I am currently operating a blog right now, and I am in need of a good keyword tool. The Google Keyword Planner has changed a lot, I find it harder to use now as compared before when it was still called Google AdWords Keyword Tool. After this comment, I will click on that link of yours and try Jaaxy for free.

  7. SEO is very important in the success of most website that rely on free traffic. It takes some understanding to get used to. One of the important criteria to a successful SEO is going after low competition keywords and it is pretty difficult to rank well in google if you don’t do that which is why I like the Jaaxy keyword research tool as it can help to find these low competition keywords. I have made use of it and I recommend it to anyone depending on google for free traffic.

  8. Thanks for this detail training on how to use the best of key word to get google rank. One will be wasting his time if he does not understand this important topic and basics about SEO. Blogging could be very frustrating and discouraging if there are no visitors and traffics. Hence having joined Wealthy Affiliate the struggle for SEO and ranking have being overcome. Thanks to Jaaxy application. Thanks to all the great coaches and mentors in the community.

    1. The community is a big part of the benefit of Wealthy Affiliate for sure.  It’s great to have so much knowledge at your fingertips.  I love that you can ask a question and like three people get right back to you with insight.  It’s amazing.  – Babs

  9. I have jaaxy but the free version, I think its a very helpful tool for finding keywords, I do have a question though, so a while back I created a post with a keyword that I, of course, found on jaxxy, well, the post made it to the first page on position six but it didn’t stay there long, what can one do to make sure you get on front page of Google and stay there for a long time so people can click to your website?

Thank you for this post, I have learned a lot.

    1. Well, Rose, that is fantastic!  Getting people to the site is critical, and also keeping them on your page is just as important.  Google will send people, but once they are there, are they staying?  What is your bounce rate?  You will want to get Google analytics so you can see how long people are staying.  Also, where are they going when they leave?   Are they going to other pages on your site or bouncing right off elsewhere?

It could be a content issue.  You have your title optimized, but the content may be missing the mark and once Google sees people aren’t staying on the page, they will move you down.

      Some food for thought.

  10. Nice writing style. I can sense that you’ve experience in marketing and you know how to talk to people. Like you mentioned in another article, Jaaxy is a very efficient tool for keyword ranking and SEO.

Do you think that the length of an article is important too? I am currently working on my website to improve the length of some short articles that I’ve made, and I noticed that the overall ranking and visits are getting better. Thanks!

    1. Yes, it has been recommended to hover around the 1,000 word mark.  The nice thing with the Wealthy Affiliate program is they have an editing tool that counts the words, paragraphs and headers to keep you on track for proper SEO.  Thanks for checking in and for the compliment.  Appreciate it!  – Babs

  11. Thank you for these great insights on how to optimize your website. It is sometimes a thing that people make seem more complicated than it actually is, but I think it is because some people make a living doing this for others.

Once you learn how to do SEO, you will wonder why you thought it was so difficult in the first place. I use a tool called Yoast, which is a WordPress Plugin. This tool is great because it tells you if your article is not optimized enough.

As you pointed out, the most important step in SEO is your keyword that you choose, and everything else runs off of the keyword.

  12. Wow, I love that you put “low competition” keywords as a way to optimize your website. Most online marketers are saying to go after bigger search terms and take whatever you can get, which is probably why so many people are happy to see themselves on page one for any old phrase these days, but low competition and buyer-minded keywords really are the way to go and you’re one of the few sites I’ve found that promotes keyword research in this light. Well done.

    1. Yes, low hanging fruit is much more productive.  There are so many sites out there, no sense in beating yourself up to compete with the big words.  Sometimes, you do find keywords with tons of searches and very low competition, and that’s sweet, but for the most part, you’re looking for some traffic and the lowest competition you can get.  – Babs

  13. Thanks for explaining In details how to optimize our website, this post made me realize the importance of a search engine, it going to help me create a user friendly website that would rank high in search engines and increase my traffic base, bypass competition and increase my conversion rates. I really enjoyed reading your post.
